SARICYCLE

Last July 16, 2022, we visited two barangays in Pampanga, our fourth SariCycle site: Barangay Diaz and Barangay Bial Maria. These barangays are in mountainous areas and they are home to Aeta communities. Work is scarce in these regions of the Philippines and they are highly susceptible to destruction from natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons that frequently hit the Philippines. Some of our prospective store owners shared that they’ve had to relocate homes after the recent earthquake and their farming livelihood has been disrupted severely. Therefore, it is our hope that the sari-sari stores we are helping them set up will serve as a sustainable source of income for these families.
